Some ecosystems, such as mountains, are highly vulnerable. As our planet continues to heat up, certain plants and animals struggle to survive in their diminishing and changing habitats. Species such as the iconic snow leopard and its habitats are threatened by climate change in addition to other threats. The illegal wildlife trade is driving species to the brink of extinction, while posing environmental, economic, development and security risks at the same time. The UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME works closely with various partners to reverse these trends in order to protect those vulnerable species as well as the humans who depend on them.
